10 Great Websites for Supporting struggling learners
We all need somewhere to turn when we find out our child is struggling in school. While I always advocate speaking to real, live experts as much as possible, the internet can be a great source of information as well. Unfortunately, it can also be a source of misinformation and unhelpful ideas, from vaccines causing autism to video games being the sole cause of ADHD. That's where this list comes in; over the years I've made my way through much of the information out there and have narrowed down my list to 10 great sites that offer research-based information and strategies, along with a good dose of understanding and empathy.
In no particular order, these are my top 10 website recommendations for parents when you find out your child is struggling in school.

Understood.org - a wealth of information about a wide variety of learning differences and challenges, from learning disabilities to ADHD to anxiety. Among others, there are sections devoted to School & Learning and another for You & Your Family. My favourite aspect of the site is the Parent Toolkit, which contains a fantastic section that simulates what it might be like to actually have your child's learning difficulties. Click here to go directly to Through Your Child's Eyes. Be prepared to spend some time on this site and don't hesitate to share it with your child's teachers.
chadd.org - Children & Adults with Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder has a history of being a leader in providing information and support for families, educators and professionals working with people with ADHD. There is a wealth of information on their site, including links to local support groups, parenting tips and tricks, parent and teacher coaching and videos and so much more.
